National Influenza Vaccine Summit
 
The 2007 National Influenza Vaccine Summit will be held on April 19-20 in Atlanta, Georgia. The National Influenza Vaccine Summit, co-sponsored by the American Medical Association and CDC, meets annually to provide a forum for discussing influenza vaccine issues with stakeholders from public, private, and non-profit organizations. Letter to ACIP on influenza
 

Read a joint letter submitted to ACIP on February 19, 2007, from 121 organizations requesting that ACIP recommend universal vaccination against influenza for all school-age children and teens through 18 years of age.
 
Recognizing efforts for going above and beyond during the 2006-07 Influenza Vaccination Season
 
The National Influenza Vaccine Summit (NIVS) has recognized three different organizations that made extraordinary contributions towards improved adult, and/or childhood influenza vaccination rates within their communities during the 2006-07 influenza vaccination season. The three categories of recognition include overall 2006-07 season activity, healthcare worker campaigns, and later season activities.
 
Overall 2006-07 Season Activity: The Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Baltimore, Maryland; Healthcare Worker Campaign: Virginia Mason Medical Center, Seattle, Washington; and Late Season Activities: GetAFluShot.com, Portland, Oregon.
 
The Awards will be presented at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) National Immunization Conference on March 5, 2007, in Kansas City, MO. To read the press release issued by the NIVS, click here.

  

FFF Enterprises to launch 2007-2008 ordering programs
 
On January 4, 2007, FFF Enterprises will launch its 2007-2008 influenza vaccine ordering programs. To accommodate all U.S. time zones, ordering will begin at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time. Click here for further information from FFF Enterprises. The Summit does not endorse one manufacturer or distributor over another. This information is being provided to assist Summit partners in their planning for the next season’s influenza vaccination programs.
 
Vaccine for December delivery still available from sanofi
 
Sanofi pasteur has been able to produce an additional 50+ million doses of influenza vaccine for the 2006-07 season from what it had originally projected. The additional doses will be available for December delivery. Providers who have already ordered these December doses will be notified of the timing of their shipments.
 
Sanofi pasteur is now accepting new orders for Fluzone vaccine in all product presentations for the 2007-08 vaccination season. Providers should call 1-800-VACCINE (1-800-822-2463) to place an order for immediate shipment. The Summit does not endorse one manufacturer or distributor over another. This information is being provided to assist Summit partners in their planning for influenza vaccination.
 
Influenza season typically peaks in February
This advertisement from The National Foundation for Infectious Disease (NFID) is intended to encourage healthcare providers to vaccinate their patients against influenza into January and later this season, as part of our efforts to help extend influenza immunization into December, January and later.
 
Please feel free to use this ad, as appropriate, when disseminating influenza vaccination messages to your constituents via upcoming communications in January or later. The ad can also be used as an educational flyer, poster or handout.
 
NFID's ad campaign, made possible by an unrestricted grant to the NFID from sanofi pasteur, will appear in the January editions of the American Medical News, Family Practice News, and Internal Medicine News targeting office and hospital-based healthcare providers.
 
NFID continues to conduct additional activities to encourage influenza vaccination into December, January and beyond, in support of CDC's messages, and will provide further updates on their efforts, as they are available.
